How many Lyme disease bacteria are there?

Lyme disease is an illness spreading by ticks. Adult deer ticks are the main carrier of this illness. The illness was firstly seen in Lyme, USA then named as Lyme disease. When tick bite a kind of bacteria transmits to people. Illness is also seen on dogs. How many Lyme disease bacteria are there?

There are three types of Lyme disease bacteria in the world. Main type mostly seen on USA is Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto. Also Borrelia afzelii and Borrelia garinii are possible in Europe.

First symptoms of illness are fever and headache. Also depression is seen on some patients. Bacteria creates a circular skin mark as characteristics and lots of patients’ diagnose is making by this mark.

Preventing from Lyme disease is very hard on rural areas. In quarantine areas, wearing long sleeves may avoid tick beating. Also protective clothes are possible for this illness.

There was also a vaccine from GlaxoSmithKline against the disease. In the early tests vaccine was very successful for saving people from Lyme bacteria. But after release, clinical practice went problematic and lots of people complained about autoimmune problems after vaccine. GlaxoSmithKline’s LYMErix was withdrawn. Researches on new vaccine are continuing.

Now the main treatment for patients is Antibiotics. Early diagnosis is very important on Lyme disease because after early diagnose period is over, it’s a very long and hard way to recover. Infectious Diseases Society of America gives different types of Antibiotics for woman, children and man patients now.
