How Many Volcanoes Are There in the World?

There is no certain answer that number of volcanoes.There are about 1,500 volcanoes that have been active for the past 10,000 years. At present there are about 600 active volcanoes during the current period through recorded history. There is 50 to 60 active volcanoes that erupt at least once yearly and at least 20 erupting at any given time. They say that the number of volcanoes in the world could be in the millions, dating back to when the Earth started.

A volcano is an opening, or rupture, in a planet’s surface or crust, which allows hot magma, volcanic ash and gases to escape from below the surface.
