Star Wars is one of the most celebrated icons in the popular culture. It’s possible to see various objects, series, web sites and more about Star Wars today. One of the most popular items in Star Wars universe is video games. Video games history on Star Wars universe is started in 1980s. It’s possible to find various games for every Star Wars sequel today. Especially “Episode I: The Phantom Menace” has the most video games for a movie. Also Star Wars characters like Han Solo are used in other games. How many Star Wars video games are there?


There are over 150 video games today based on Star Wars Universe. First game about Star Wars Universe is released as “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.” It was a scrolling shooter. It’s released in 1982 and was possible for Atari 2600. It was possible to control a snowspeeder in game against AT-AT walkers. Game gained critical success with its colorful atmosphere.

First game with only “Star Wars” name is released on “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.” It was possible to attack Death Star in this game like the final act of movie. Game was based on 3D color vector graphics. Game is released for Arcade machines but then ported to lots of game consoles like Commodore 64, Acorn Electron and Nintendo GameCube. Also it was possible to convert the game to “Empire Strikes Back” game by a conversion kit. Game took 3/5 from reviewers. Also a Famicom version of Star Wars game is released exclusively on Japan.
It’s possible to find 8 games on “Episode IV: A New Hope” sequel. Sega released its Star Wars games in 91 and 93, Snes released “Super Star Wars” in 1992. Also there are two Star Wars games for Ios. They are “Star Wars: Trench Run” and “Star Wars Arcade: Falcon Gunner.”

Then collectors found a prototype cartridge of game in 2000s and it’s now one of the most precious items for Star Wars fans and collectors.

Also “Star Wars: Obi-Wan” is released for Xbox and it took good critics even graphic level is not satisfactory for fans.
There are only two games of “Episode II: Attack of the Clones.” Also “Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” has two video games. “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” became the first Star Wars game released for Play Station 2.
