How many ancient dog breeds are there?

Dogs are the oldest friends of human. They are subspecies of a wolf gender and they are most easily domesticated animals on the world. Still they are wild dogs in nature but big percentage of them is domesticated beside born from domesticated dogs ones. There are big researches on dog breeds and scientists found ancient dog breeds in last years. How many ancient dog breeds are there?

There are 14 main ancient domesticated dog types in the world. Some of the breeds are relativized closely but some of them are very different than other types.

Most famous ancient dog breeds are Shar Pei. Shar Pei is a powerful dog with its typical deep wrinkles. Also black tongue of it is distinctive. Breed’s origin is China but it’s possible to see drawings of it in Old Greek.

Shiba Inu is another famous ancient dog breed. It’s typical with strong muscles. Shiba Inu is using for running with and hunting since first ages of human.

Chow Chow is also an ancient dog breed. Its origin is China and it’s mostly used as a park tripper home dog. Chow Chows have now different colors but the origin color of them is white.

Akita is the Japan origin ancient breed dog. There are lots of stories about it and lots of countries know this breed as “great Japanese dog”. There are also new types of it like American Akita.

There are also ancient dog breeds like Basenji, Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Afghan Hound and Saluki.
